I just had to share this quick tip with you. I’ve been getting flowers every week from our CSA, but they’re not my only way of bringing freshness into the house. Whether you grow your own carrots, get them from a farm or from the store with the tops on, don’t toss those tops! I’ve shared this before but thought it bears repeating. Even fresh greenery can brighten up a room.I also feel like it adds to the value of my carrot purchase. I use some of the carrot tops in smoothies or salads, feed some of them to Chloe who absolutely LOVES them, and use a nice bunch to adorn my table.
Do you have any money saving ways you decorate that might surprise people?
Love it!
A Japanese friend showed me that you can also grow carrot tops from storebought carrots that no longer have leaves by cutting off the top of the carrot, putting it in a saucer with a wee bit of water, and letting it sit for a while. This is great to do with kids as you watch the tops grow leaves!
Ooooh, great idea Abigail! I love growing things like that as a kid. I also put green onion bottoms in water or dirt to grow their tops back over and over again.
Very clever idea! I always save some carrot tops for when I make broth, but never very many because too many can make the broth bitter. Now I can add some to a home-picked bouquet to flesh it out a bit. Thanks for the tip!
