Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe and Saucy Mama Give Away

I’ve had the idea of a buffalo chicken blue cheese dip recipe in my head for quite some time now.  I love the taste of buffalo wings dipped in blue cheese dressing, but so many people I know don’t like the wings because they think the small amount of meat is not worth the effort to eat it.  Although I may disagree, I wanted to create something with the flavor of buffalo wings and blue cheese that would still please my pickier friends and family.

When I got my Saucy Mama samples (on the same day I got tons of King Crab legs!) it felt like Christmas opening the packages.  I was especially excited when I saw the Hot Wing Sauce, because I knew it was time to test out my dip idea.

It so happened that when I first decided to make this recipe I had all the ingredients on hand, and all the dairy products except the cream cheese were light or low fat versions.  I usually prefer the taste of the “good stuff” but have been experimenting with lower fat products for the Healthy Cooking on a Tight Budget Program.   I was thrilled that even with low fat ingredients, this dip had so much flavor that it I could tell people it was healthier than it tasted! 😉

The dip was a HUGE success.  I’ve served it two ways depending on my mood or the type of party.  The first is baked in the oven so it’s gooey and melted.  This is perfect for dipping crackers, bread and celery into.  The second way is cold, dolloped on crackers and garnished with a cherry tomato wedge and parsley leaf.  Either way is a hit, but I have to warn everyone that we like things a little spicy around here, so feel free to ease back on the hot wing sauce if you can’t handle the heat!

On that note, it’s time for a give away!  I have a bottle of Saucy Mama Hot Wing Sauce to give to one of you, and I’m also throwing in a jar of Jalapeno Stuffed Olives and a bottle cracked pepper marinade!

Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe

makes 2 1/2 cups

Ingredients

1 5 oz can of chicken, drained (or 3/4 cup leftover chicken, shredded)
1 cup cream cheese
3/4 cup light sour cream
1/2 cup light mayonnaise
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp garlic powder
4 oz crumbled low fat blue cheese
1/4 cup Saucy Mama Hot Wing Sauce

Instructions

Mix all ingredients together until smooth and creamy (this is easiest in a stand mixer).

To serve hot:  Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Pour dip into a casserole dish with at least 1 inch of room (dip expands as it cooks).  Bake for 20-25 minutes, until heated through and bubbling.  Serve with crackers, crostini and celery sticks to dip.

To serve cold: Dollop crackers with 1/2 tsp of dip and garnish with a cherry tomato wedge and sprig of parsley.

Approximate cost/serving: A bottle of Saucy Mama Hot Wing Sauce is around $6, but you’ll still have plenty left after making this recipe.  The whole batch costs around $4 to make, and feeds 20 people as the hot dip or 35 as the cold appetizer!  So it can be 20 cents per serving or 12 cents a serving (not counting crackers, celery, etc).

Vegetarian/Gluten Free: Yeah you can make it without the chicken, though it sure is tasty with it!  The Hot Wing Sauce is gluten free, just make sure to use a gluten free worcestershire sauce.

  1. Hi Diana, I joined Twitter a while ago but yours was my first tweet – I haven’t figured out what to do with Twitter… I live on the east coast and lived outside of Buffalo for a while so If I won the hot sauce, we will see how it stacks up on wings!

  2. Did subscribe to posts/mailing list AND posted to facebook. I LOVE hot sauce. Have tried several not only from here at home (Palau) and from Saipan (they grind and flavor some HOT thick sauce) but from where ever I travel to and from friends from Sri Lanka, India, Korea etc. I love hot sauce, hot spicy foods and flavors!

  3. You are a lifesaver!! My fathers 80th birthday is Oct12th and we are throwing him a family party of about 70 guests. We will be doing a Santa Maria style BBQ. My appetizers are bbq’d sausages, smoked 3 cheese platers, relishtray with salsa, celery, radish, onion, pickles, and stuffed olives. A couple of trays with this cheese dip will now be my final topping on the cake! Thank you so much.
